Peñasco Least Chipmunk

The Global Change Conservation Lab is honored to have received a grant from the US Fish & Wildlife Service to assess the conservation status of species of “Sky Islands” of the southwestern US. Of them, the Peñasco least chipmunk (Tamias minimus atristriatus) is a candidate for listing under the Endangered Species Act! We’re also excited to be given the opportunity to develop species distribution models that account for phylogenetic relationships and highly-fine scale environmental heterogeneity.

Thank you to Erik Beever‘s (USGS) leadership, and to partners Chuck Hayes (University of New Mexico), Bob Parmenter (National Park Service), Scott McFarland (National Park Service), and Karl Malcolm (US Forest Service), and Jennifer Frey (New Mexico State University).
